Clinical Trials Outpatient Service

This unit makes an important contribution to the research carried out at our Division. It has dedicated space within the outpatient clinic with 3 examining rooms and an office. The study team comprises two full-time study assistants and two full-time physicians qualified to perform clinical studies in accordance with the Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. With its own technical infrastructure including electrocardiography (Vivid-7, from October 2011, Vivid-9), spiroergometry, stress ECG and treadmill, all study-related examinations can be undertaken independent of clinical routine in the outpatient service. This assures high quality examinations and minimal waiting time for patients, who have precisely scheduled appointments. Main areas of research interest are treatment studies for diastolic heart failure, myocardial infarction and medical appliances. The unit also administers the Herz.Leben Project, an educational program on hypertension for physicians, nurses and patients. A major third-party sponsored project on biomarker research (see Research, COMET Project BioPerMed) will provide the Division of Cardiology with a new Clinical Research Center as of fall 2011 with 12 examination rooms (4 for partners in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and 2 for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology) and a direct connection to the Biobank.
